Ducati Demo Days – Explore the new 2013 Ducati range at a nationwide Ducati demo weekend – 20/21 April.

April 15th, 2013

Ducati dealerships are participating in a nationwide demo weekend on 20/21 April to display and demonstrate the latest 2013 Ducati range and give customers who book a demo ride the opportunity to win a Ducati leather jacket.

April has been a busy time for dealers with up to six new models arriving from Bologna in recent weeks including Ducati’s flagship Superbike, the stunning 1199 Panigale R. Whilst the Panigale may draw the most attention, it cannot overshadow an incredible 2013 range that provides something for all tastes and types of riding.

The most recent addition to the range is the Hypermotard, a bike designed for agility, performance and most of all, fun – a thrill seekers dream. The Hypermotard benefits from a new 4-valve water-cooled 821cc engine which is further enhanced by riding mode technology. This state of the art technology includes traction control and ABS and this is also available on the Hyperstrada and Hypermotard SP.

The Hypermotard SP provides the same thrills as the standard Hypermotard but with a more uncompromising sporty style due to a raised set-up, forged Marchesini rims, fully adjustable suspensions with an ultra-light Marzocchi aluminium yoke and Ohlins rear shock absorber. ABS and Ducati Traction Control (DTC) are standard.

For those that enjoy the motard style of the Hypermotard but are looking for a more flexible and adaptable package then the Hyperstrada provides that in every way. ABS, DTC, windshield, side bags, dedicated ergonomics and a series of touring features offer a riding experience that still provides the thrills when going further afield.

For the long distance rider, there is now the Multistrada Granturismo a worthy addition to the Multistrada range that now comes with ‘Skyhook’ technology. ‘Skyhook’ is semi-active suspension that now ensures the best set-up every inch of the way and is standard on all ‘S’ models. The Grandturismo provides all the comforts and accessories that ensure a long distant ride can be enjoyed to the maximum. 73-litre panniers, top case, higher bars for more upright riding position, higher screen, engine protection bars and LED spotlights all add up to a bike that is ready to take on the world.

One of the other new bikes to arrive in dealerships recently and eagerly anticipated by many is the Diavel Strada, an evolution of the Diavel concept. The Diavel has always had a commanding presence and now even more so with an array of dedicated accessories including side bags, windshield, and new seat and raised handlebars which make the Diavel Strada ideal to dominate the open road.

Dovizioso, Hayden seventh and eighth in Qatar Grand Prix

April 8th, 2013

The season-opening MotoGP race saw Ducati Team riders Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden finish in seventh and eighth places, respectively, under the floodlights at Losail International Circuit.

After starting from the second row in his debut race for the Italian factory, Dovizioso ran in third place in the early laps and was then involved in battles with Valentino Rossi, Cal Crutchlow, Alvaro Bautista, Stefan Bradl, and teammate Hayden. Meanwhile, the American quickly advanced from the eleventh spot on the grid to ninth place, and after pushing hard the entire race, he crossed the finish line in eighth.

Andrea Dovizioso – Ducati Team, 7th: “Before coming here, this is about the best result we could have hoped for. It’s true that we had hoped to do better following the exceptional qualifying session, but this is the reality. Races are different than practice, and I knew that. In fact, I was really curious to see how I’d go in the race. Doing a race weekend is an important experience, so we go on from here. We knew there were limits, but in my opinion we couldn’t have done any better. We improved on the times from last year, so that’s positive. Still, of course we always want to do better, so we don’t go home happy.”

Nicky Hayden – Ducati Team, 8th: “We knew it was going to be difficult. We made a little improvement in the warm-up session, and I felt a bit better. I have to give credit to my guys because we made one more change before the race, and my bike was better than it’s been since we got here. I did my best time of the weekend by two tenths and basically ran at my qualifying pace for the first part of the race. I worked really hard to close that gap and get onto that little group in front of me, and things started feeling better. It would have been nice to pick up one more spot, but I couldn’t get past Dovi because he was better than I was on the brakes.”

Bernhard Gobmeier – Ducati Corse General Manager: “We’re happy that all four Ducati riders finished the race without any specific issues, and the result was as good as we could have expected in the current circumstances. With the progress made over the testing season, we were able to improve our speed, but nevertheless, we don’t yet have the consistency to run at the front, especially toward the end. We’re looking forward to the next races and the tests, where we’ll have some new things to try out.”

As the team heads home to prepare for the championship’s next round, in Texas, its members extend their warm support to Team Manager Vittoriano Guareschi, whose father Claudio passed away on Sunday.

Ducati Team in the spotlights at start of 2013 season

April 2nd, 2013

Following a long winter of testing and preparing for the 2013 MotoGP championship, the Ducati Team finally heads to the Middle East this week for the first Grand Prix of the year, at Qatar’s Losail International Circuit.

The squad has a much different look than it did just over four months ago at the 2012 season finale in Valencia, Spain, with changes in management and a new rider in Andrea Dovizioso. The Italian will be campaigning his first race aboard the Desmosedici, whereas teammate Nicky Hayden enters his fifth season with the Italian factory.

The team approaches the Qatar Grand Prix with the awareness that 2013 will likely be something of a building year, and the Losail Circuit, where the current lap record was set in 2008 by then-Ducati rider Casey Stoner, offers a first opportunity to see how competitive Dovizioso’s and Hayden’s bikes can be.

As has been the case since that same year, the season opener will take place at night, with illumination provided by an impressive array of outdoor lighting. Also unique is the format, with the event taking place over four days rather than the typical three, and all three classes given an extra free-practice session—the first of which will take place on Thursday night. In addition, Saturday evening will see the debut of a new qualifying system for the MotoGP class, as riders will endeavour to advance through a series of elimination sessions.

Andrea Dovizioso – Ducati Team: “Losail is a good track for me, as I’ve always had good races there, and I think that the Ducati’s strengths can work in Qatar. We head to this race determined to do well. We know that our pace isn’t so far from the others’ on new tyres, so we should certainly be able to fight for a good grid position, but we have a significant gap to make up in race configuration. Unfortunately we weren’t able to do a race simulation in the tests, so tyre wear is a question mark for me.”

Nicky Hayden – Ducati Team: “I’m very much looking forward to starting another season. Of course I wish we were going into it with more speed and consistency, but I feel like we’ve made progress at every pre-season test. The team has used the dry track time we’ve had very well, and we were able to get more out of the recent Jerez test than I thought we would, considering I’d just had wrist surgery. The Qatar track is smooth, which should suit our bike well, and racing under the lights at the first round is always very unique.”

Vittoriano Guareschi – Team Manager: “Unfortunately, we weren’t able to complete our work program at Jerez, due to the bad weather. Now we head to Qatar, where we’ll have to try some things in order to complete the setup work. It will be a strange race in unique conditions, as is always the case in Qatar. We hope that the wind won’t bother us too much and that our team will do well. We’ve had very good results there in the past, so the track isn’t an enemy for us. We’ve made steps over the winter, and our bike has improved at every test, so we expect to make further advances in Qatar. Andrea has done well at this circuit; he had a nice race there in his MotoGP debut and finished fourth, and we’ll be happy if we’re able to repeat that. Nicky also likes the track and has done pretty well there, but we’ll have to try hard to limit tyre wear. We still have some question marks, but anyway, we’re optimistic.”
