Noriyuki Haga (Ducati Xerox): “I made a strong start in Race 1 but it was difficult to catch Xaus. My tyres were not bad during the first half of the race but nevertheless I couldn’t push as I wanted to and Xaus remained there in front of me. In the second race we changed the tyre but maybe it doesn’t suit my riding style because I didn’t feel so stable and it didn’t give me enough feeling. Having said that, I was able to make up several positions and fifth, even though I hoped to do much better, wasn’t bad considering my grid position.”

Michel Fabrizio (Ducati Xerox):“In Race 1 I realised straight away that I had a problem because I wasn’t able to push and then the bike started to vibrate a great deal. At a certain point I wasn’t able to put the bike into gear and so had to come back to the box. It’s a shame because I was gaining on Toseland and thought I could run a good race, maybe even reaching the podium. Race 2 went much better. I defended myself and am satisfied with the result, though I was sorry for Xaus of course.”

Shane Byrne (Althea team)“In race 1 we didn’t have much grip and this conditioned my result, In the second race, on the other hand, I was able to improve quite a lot, lapping more than half a second faster than I did in race 1, in a race in which I think everyone had trouble making fast lap times. Now I’m banking on getting fully fit so I can be totally prepared for Silverstone. No one has ridden on the new track yet and this could be an interesting factor as far as the races are concerned.”

Carlos Checa (Althea Team)“Yesterday, in both the qualifying and free practice sessions, we had a great level of grip while today, with the same tyre, we had more problems”, this morning we tried to adapt the bike to the situation but during the race it was sliding arounda lot. I tried to push to take as many championship points as possible but now my head is already focused on Silverstone, a great track, rich in history, on which we will try to race to the front.”

Checa

Carlos Checa
: “As soon as I went out on track for the final session I could feel that the second qualifier, brand new, didn’t have the same grip as the first and was not as stable, which meant I could only do so much. I am, however, very satisfied when I look at our race pace. Over these two days we’ve spent some time trying some new solutions and now we’re on the right track. Tomorrow? It will be a difficult race because the heat means there is not much grip. The tyres have to last twenty laps but we’ll try our best, as ever…”

Noriyuki Haga, first (Ducati Xerox) 1m59.2: “Feeling with my bike improved this afternoon, as we took another step with regard to the suspension and that helped, as did changing the tyre pressure. We still need to improve braking in certain sections of the track, and I’m not sure about tyres yet, because although the new one seems fairly consistent, I still want to try our “usual” tyre tomorrow and see how it works in these conditions. We’ve made a good start and will try to improve further in tomorrow’s sessions.”

Michel Fabrizio, third (Ducati Xerox) 1m59.7: “Everything’s going well for now and there are no real problems. The new rear tyre seems to be working well here, as it did when we tested it in Imola recently, and I was able to complete race distance on it, so that gives me confidence, though we still have the new front tyre to try tomorrow. I’m feeling fairly positive; I really like this track and hope to be able to do well tomorrow, to qualify at the front for Sunday’s races.”
